
TORRANCE —?Kenji Mizoguchi’s “Sansho the Bailiff” (1954) will be screened on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 2:30 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church, 2115 W. 182nd St., Torrance.
In medieval Japan, a compassionate governor is sent into exile. His wife and children try to join him, but are separated, and the children grow up amid suffering and oppression. With Kinuyo Tanaka, Yoshiaki Hanayagi, Kyoko Kagawa.
Director Mizoguchi won the Silver Lion and was nominated for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1954.
