And, of course, he's also telling one of the world's best soccer players to "shut up and play," while also attacking her First Amendment right to free speech in her anthem protests. For a president, this is pretty damn glaring.

Not helping his cause: Rapinoe is an outspoken supporter of women's equality and LGBTQ rights (Rapinoe herself came out in 2012), both topics on which the Trump administration has been incredibly weak, if not outright hostile.

For what it's worth, Rapinoe has three goals for the U.S. so far in the tournament, including both goals in Monday's Round of 16 win over Spain.
