LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE —?The Cherry Blossom Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 12-13, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Dr. in La Ca?ada Flintridge.
Welcome springtime with this annual celebration of Japanese culture and the beautiful flowering trees in the landscape. Enjoy music, origami, food and guided garden walks. Activities free with admission unless noted.
Cherry Tree Sale — both days from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gift Shop. These flowering trees sell out early.
Discovery Stations — both days from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Center Circle, Japanese Garden. Learn about cherry trees and related plants at these exploration tables.
Cherry Blossom Walks — both days at 11a.m. and 2 p.m. at Center Circle. Take a guided walk with the garden’s experts and learn about cherry blossoms and other flowering trees.
Origami — both days from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Japanese Garden. Try the art of paper folding with help from experts.
Camellia Lounge — Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Japanese Garden. Purchase Japanese-influenced cuisine, including tempura and sushi selections.
Performance by June Kuramoto — both days from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Under the Oaks Theater. Kuramoto performs on the koto, the national instrument of Japan. A classically trained musician, she is a founding member of the Japanese American fusion ensemble Hiroshima.
Shakuhachi in the Garden — both days from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Enjoy the sounds of Japanese flute as musician George Abe wanders and plays throughout the garden.
Admission is $9 general; $6 for seniors (65 and over) and students; $4 for children (5 to 12); free for Descanso members and children under 5.
