The purchase limits were probably not a big deal for the majority of customers, but they were likely a reflection of Apple's supply chain being strained due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

COVID-19 – the disease caused by coronavirus – has so far killed more than 12,900 and infected more than 294,000 people. The outbreak has been worsening in the U.S. in recent weeks, with more than 34,276 confirmed cases and 413 deaths.
