Now, to be clear, this video is neither the opening credits of the show, as some folks thought, nor is it an official trailer.
It's a mash-up of images from a promo with Entertainment Weekly. In fact, the video sits atop an in-depth EWstory about the ambitious fantasy show. But that didn't stop folks from posting sarcastic comments on Twitter about the video.

Though the post wasn't from the show itself, there is plenty to laugh about. It's quite strange to see what amounts to a mash-up of GIFs of actors in full LOTR garb making knowing glances, over-wrought reactions, and other vague capital-A-Acting expressions.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerpremieres globally on Friday, but those in the U.S. will be able to watch it on Amazon Prime Video at 9 p.m. E.T. Despite the memes, you might want to give it a watch. Mashable's Belen Edwards called the show a "stunning, meticulously crafted love letter to J.R.R. Tolkien and Middle-earth."
The internet, however, welcomed the new show with anything but love.
